THE ADVENTURES OF JOHN AND MARTY

An ongoing narrative of our lives and the lives of the folks we relate to in Kadawa, Kenya
and the general local!

THE CHICKEN PROJECT

NEW SOURCES OF PROTEIN

The exciting new project on the Widows' Farm is to raise chickens (kukus in Swahili). While Jeremy has been in Kadawa he began construction of a chicken coop on the farm. It is being built with the same siding from which most of the farm buildings are made.

The chickens will be raised to lay eggs - which will be distributed to widows and the farm staff - and also, as the chickens get older and new ones take their place, they will be distributed to the widows. With completion of the coop, 46 chickens were purchased and delivered, and seemed to settle right into their new home.
These photos/videos show the construction, the final product, the arrival of the chickens, and Belinda locking them up on their first night in their new home. She will care for them.
Black Friday took on new meaning. (Actually that is an unknown term there, but seemed appropriate considering what was being made.) On that day several children were given the task of making balls - about the size of tennis balls - of dung and charcoal dust. These will be dried out and set alight as a source of heat to keep the chickens warm at night.
Amazing how God is so creative through human beings. A
favorite quote is: "God was so intent on working through humans that He became One"!
Jeremy is doing a wonderful work in Kadawa.  We are so grateful that God sent him to work with us.  A good man!!!

More news in a few days. What is happening on the farm is exciting.
God Bless You All!

UPDATE - NOVEMBER 2018

Sunday church services last a lonnnng time. Here is a small video that Jeremy sent of the "worship" part of the service Sunday morning, Nov. 11.

There is also the "praise" part which is much more lively with a lot of dancing and clapping - I've attached a praise video from a previous service. For many folks in the villages Sunday is the only time they can all get together, so it is a good time to have meetings of various committees, teams, etc. We are talking several hours of Bible study, church and meetings. Sundays can be wonderful, and sometimes tiring days. Arriving at 10 and leaving at 2 is not uncommon. When we visit other churches to minister we can leave there at 5 or 6 o'clock in the evening after having the Sunday service and then gathering for a meal, ministry to church staff and general fellowship.
Also attached is a heart-tugging (for us) clip of widows and farm staff praying for John and me this past week. Oh how we love and miss our friends there.
God is good - all the time   and   All the time - God is good!

We wish you all God's Richest and Abundant Blessings!

Our primary focus is to improve the lives of destitute senior widows to assist in giving them dignity in their declining years,  and give aid to other impoverished women, children and men in Western Kenya; predominately in the village of Kadawa on Lake Victoria.
